Dues, dues, and more dues, oh my...

Yes it's true, dues have finally come around for RID, FRID, and your local affiliate chapter, BayFRID.  At this time you can renew your memebership for both RID and FRID online.  However for BayFRID we still do things the old fashioned way.  Until we get the ability to process memeberships online, please click on the link below and download the latest BayFRID membership application.  This year, BayFRID has a lot of exciting things planned ahead for all our members.  Please join, or renew our membership today.  We truly appreciate your patronage.

Committees
 Nomination Committee:

BayFRID is currently seeking members in good standing to be part of this year’s BayFRID Nominations Committee.  The current chair for this committee is Amanda Guy-Smarko.  If you are interested in serving on this vital committee, please email either Dan Cook, President at BayFRIDPresident@yahoo.com, or Amanda, our Nominations Committee chair/liaison, at ALG49@hotmail.com.

 Annual BayFRID picnic:

BayFRID is currently starting to plan an annual picnic for next year during the month of March.  This will be an event which will include community partners from deaf and hard of hearing organizations as well as partners in the interpreting communities.  This will be a fun filled event full of games, prizes, food and fun!  If you think you have what it takes to plan one of BayFRID’s largest social events of the year or just want to be part of the team, let us know.  Please submit a letter of interest to BayFRIDPresident@yahoo.com.   Looking forward to working with you.

 Mentorship Committee:

BayFRID is currently looking to develop a committee geared to look at how we as a local chapter can be supportive to our student/pre-certified population of interpreters in providing mentorship opportunities.  We would like to have a meeting to look at such things as structure, funding, support options, etc.  If you have an opinion on how we can achieve such a program, please let us know.  Please send email to BayFRIDPresident@yahoo.com.

EARN WHILE YOU LEARN!!!

SLA Florida is accepting applications for its paid mentorship program. The application deadline for Fall 2008 is July 7th and the deadline for Spring 2009 is November 3rd.

SLA’s Mentorship Program is for interpreters who possess at least entry level or better interpreting skills.  Participants are expected to possess the skill to interpret both solo and teamed assignments. The Program can serve as a bridge between an ITP and the professional world of interpreting, as well as a concentrated time to focus on a specialty or to prepare for a national certification, through exposure to an array of assignments and regular feedback sessions.

Currently, BayFRID is looking to develop ongoing "Lunch and Learns," which are mini-workshops (usually 2 to 3 hours in length) put on by our members for our membership to earn CEUs.  The best part about "Lunch and Learns" is that they are FREE!!!  YES WE SAID FREE!!!  So what's the catch???  You have to be a paid member in good standing.  (smiling)  Stay tuned for more information on our first Lunch and Learn coming to a meeting real soon.

For workshop ideas or suggestions please contact Mindy Richards, our Member at Large (MAL) at
